A week of a board member

A number of posts on the Chatham Journal’s Bulletin Board chide Board of Education members for sitting on their posteriors and not doing anything about the schools. The following is just my events as a board member beginning 14 May and ending at 6 p.m. yesterday.

14 May - Board of Education meeting already reported upon.
15 May - 23 school related emails (12 to answer) and 4 telephone calls. 3 hours, 7 minutes elapsed time. Prepared for talk to be given on 17 May 2 hours, 17 minutes elapsed time.
16 May - 19 emails (7 to answer). 1 hour, 22 minutes elapsed time. Rehearsal for talk to be given 17 May. 40 minutes elapsed time.
17 May - Toured Chatham Central High School and Jordan Matthews High School with other Board of Education members and Board of Commission members. 4 hours, 10 minutes elapsed time. 12 emails (12 to answer) and six telephone calls.
Delivered comments and participated in Conservative Voice Educational forum. 2 hours, 22 minutes elapsed time at forum.
Answered emails from above 1 hour, 13 minutes elapsed time.
18 May - Visited Bonlee school’s Annual Reading Carnival. 2 hours 30 minutes elapsed time. 16 emails (16 to answer) and 11 phone calls.
19 May - Visited Northwood High School where the Relay for Life was being conducted. 2 hours, 10 minutes elapsed time. Met with several parents about condition of Northwood High School. 1 hour, 05 minutes elapsed time.
21 May - Attended Board of Commissioners’ workshop as assigned liaison between the two boards. 3 hours, 17 minutes elapsed time. 6 emails (6 to answer) 27 minutes elapsed time.

Except for the tour with the Commissioners, this has been a typical week for a board member who sits on his posterior!
