Perry Harrison’s Math/Science Night
If you missed it, Perry Harrison held the event Tuesday night and had a number of interesting exhibits. It was fun watching the various experiments and the youngsters trying their hands at propulsion (Newton Cars), at chemical reactions (blowing up balloons using vinegar and baking soda), making Binary Beads for bracelets and a Mobius loop from paper. Each exhibit held the children’s interest as we moved from station to station.
Two of the highlights were the exhibits by Piedmont Biofuels and the fully equipped BioNetwork Mobile Laboratory. The interest in those two exhibits seemed to stimulate young minds as they learned how science can benefit each of us by seeing the end results.
Another exhibit I would recommend to every PTSA and school is the one put on by the State Bureau of Investigation concerning internet security. Many good handouts were available as well as a knowledgeable person to answer questions. Every time I passed that station, it was crowded with questions galore. This is the second time I saw an exhibit about this important subject with the first in Moncure’s PTSA meeting in January.
To those exhibitors I didn’t mention by name, it was unintentional. Each of the stations and exhibits were excellent and should be emulated by each school. Math and Science are such important subjects which last through a lifetime. To see the interest in those subjects by the children was certainly inspiring and a hope that interest can be nutured.
Thank you, Perry Harrison School, for a very delightful evening.
