PITTSBORO — Two boards got together Monday night to talk about issues facing Chatham County.

The Chatham County Board of Education and the Board of Commissioners met jointly to discuss, specifically, a potentially problematic high school site and to talk about improving communication between the two boards in planning for the county’s future.

“We’re really trying to share information so we can become a more information-based system and work hand in hand,” said Board of Education Chairman Norman Clark.

Clark and his fellow board members then gave a presentation to the commissioners as well as the capacity crowd that gathered to attend the joint meeting at Pittsboro Elementary School.

The presentation outlined recently discovered problems with a 94-acre tract of land on Jack Bennett Road in northern Chatham County, where the Board of Education plans to build a new high school.

The county purchased the land for $1.2 million in 2001 to build a high school and alleviate overcrowding at Northwood High School in Pittsboro and Jordan Matthews High School in Siler City.
